Michigan Clean Sweep Program

The Michigan Clean Sweep Program helps protect the State's natural resources and prevent agriculture pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of outdated, unused or unwanted pesticides in Michigan.

Participating Clean Sweep sites accept pesticide products, free of charge, from any Michigan resident.
Clean Sweep is made possible by a strong and unique local, state, federal and industry relationship.

Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG)

  • All non-residential participants (businesses, organizations, schools, etc.) are required to schedule an appointment via telephone only by calling the RecycleSmart hotline at 231-941-5555. Do not use the online appointment system.
  • Submit a completed Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator form (CESQG Form PDF) through the RecycleSmart program at least 5 business days prior to the event date.

A generator qualifies as a CESQG if the following two conditions are met:

  1. Less than 220 pounds (or about 25 gallons) of hazardous waste is generated in a given calendar month.
  2. Accumulated material never exceeds 2,200 pounds at any given time.
