Commissioner Bob Johnson was honored as Veteran of the Year by the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition for his efforts and commitment to Veterans issues. Commissioner Johnson is active and has taken a leadership role at the State level and is Chairman of Project Cherry Tree.
Health Department Receives Director's Award
The Grand Traverse County Health Department was chosen as the winner of the 2016 Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Director's Award for local public health and was specifically recognized for its leadership of the Northern Michigan Regional Public Health Emergency Preparedness team and program. The award is presented annually to a local health department in recognition of excellence in public health.

The Northern Michigan Public Health Alliance, which includes Grand Traverse County, has received the coveted Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director’s Award for Excellence in Local Public Health.
