The Commission on Aging is involved in many special/community events throughout the county. We are able to participate in these special events, thanks to the help of countless volunteers. If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, please see our volunteers page.
Baskets of Bounty
Food and personal care items are packaged and delivered to senior citizens in need, who will be alone during the holiday season. The Baskets of Bounty program exists due to donations of time and funding from employees, residents, groups and businesses. A huge thanks to all those involved with the Baskets of Bounty program!
Intergenerational Card Program
Each year, local grade school students make holiday cards for our clients. These cards have become a favorite part of the holidays for our clients. Thank you to all of the students who take the time to create these lovely cards.
AARP Tax Assistance
During the months of February, March and April - volunteers from AARP assist senior citizens in completing simple tax returns, at no charge, through the Commission on Aging.
Qualifications To qualify to have your taxes completed you must be:
A Grand Traverse County resident
Age 60 or older
You must be of low or middle income
You must have a simple tax return to complete

AARP Safe Driving Program
From May - October, AARP volunteers conduct an 8-hour Driver Safety Course (over a 2 day period) through the Commission on Aging, specially designed for mature drivers. Appointments are taken beginning - mid April and AARP charges a fee for this program.

Senior Expo Bay Area Senior Advocates (B.A.S.A.) hosts this expo of collective solutions for changes that area families may experience when aging. The Commission on Aging participates with over 100 exhibitors in the Ideas for Life Expo, offering services available to seniors in our community. Visit their website.
