The Animal Control program is no longer with the Grand Traverse County Health Department as of January 1, 2016.  If you find a stray dog and feel comfortable transporting it to the Cherryland Humane Society, you may do so.  Their hours are: Monday-Friday 11am - 5pm and Saturdays 11am - 3pm.  They can be reached at 231-946-5116.

Some Animal Control functions have been transferred to the Grand Traverse County Sheriffs Office.  Questions regarding animal issues should be directed to the Central Dispatch non-emergency telephone number of 231-922-4550.
If you know of a situation where you believe a canine's welfare may be in jeopardy, we urge you to contact Central Dispatch at 231-922-4550 right away. For dangerous situations involving animal neglect, abuse, endangerment, or any life threatening situations: Please call 911.

Please note: Sheltering services for dogs from Grand Traverse County are now located at the Cherryland Humane Society. If you choose to bring in a stray dog on your own, or if you are looking for your missing dog, please go the Cherryland Humane Society at 1750 Ahlberg Road.
