Circuit Court Records

The Historic Courthouse is located on the corner of Boardman Avenue and Washington Street.

In 2001, the Grand Traverse County Family Court Records division of the 13th Circuit Court was established in compliance with MCL 600.1011. Since that date, the County Clerk has maintained court records in two locations based upon the type of complaint filed. In general, civil cases involving claims for damages in excess of $25,000 are filed in Circuit Court Records as well as review of administrative agency decisions, appeals from the District Court, civil matters regarding titles to property, criminal felony cases and divorces without minor children. This office also holds the records for domestic cases that commenced prior to 2001.

TrueFiling

The electronic filing (e-filing) of pleadings and other documents in the 13th Circuit Court is mandatory for all files with case codes C, N, A and P; and Domestic Relations case codes DO.  Mandatory e-filing is authorized by Local Administrative Order 2010-4 and Amendment of Administrative Order No. 2010-04 to Expand E-Filing.  This link will direct you to information that will assist you in the use of TrueFile, this Court's e-file software.    

FEES (Not used for TrueFiling)
Fees may be paid by cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card (see link on the left of the page for credit card payments).

Instructions for credit card payments:
This site is not for payment of District Court, Antrim County or Leelanau County fees.
    1.    Choose the "Circuit Court Records Credit Card Payments" on the left side of this page.
    2.    Sign on as a Guest User or create a Username and Password.
    3.    Provide the information such as name, email address, telephone number, etc.
    4.    Enter payer name and telephone number.
    5.    Scroll through the payment categories and enter the payment amount in the appropriate category, 
           and the case number (example 101234DM).
    6.    Enter credit card information.
    7.    Review information regarding additional fees and rules.
    8.    A confirmation will be forwarded to your email address as well as to the Records office. 
Payments made after 5:00 P.M. will be posted the next business day.

OFFICE HOURS
Office hours for both records offices are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please be aware that research of court files during the hours of noon and 2:00 p.m. may be restricted because older case files are located away from the main office due to space constraints.  Passport processing in the Circuit Court records office is between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Cost of standard copies is $0.50 per page.
Cost of certified copies are: $10.00 plus $1.00 per page.

PASSPORTS
The Circuit Court Records Office processes passport applications between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
