History of 911

Grand Traverse Central Dispatch was formed in 1977.  There wasn't 911 in 1977, but only a seven digit telphone number that was designated the "emergency" number for Grand Traverse County.  That number was 941-1911, and it still rings into dispatch today. 

Our enhanced 911 system took effect in April of 1991, so not only were the citizens able to use an easy three digit number, but pertinent information would display automatically in the dispatch center.  This information includes the registered telephone's address and telephone number information.
