Emergency Response Team

The Sheriff’s Office has maintained a tactical unit for over twenty-five years.  The original team was formed in the mid 1970’s and consisted of six officers and was called the S.T.A.R. Team (Special Tactics And Rescue)

In 1998 the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force consisting of Northern Michigan Police Agencies formed the NMMA Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Officers from multi agencies form a team of approximately thirty members.  The officers are divided into three groups by region. These highly trained individuals are on call 24 hours per day 365 days a year to respond to calls that require special skills and tactics.

The teams primary objective is to de-escalate violent situations.  The Sheriff’s Office group includes members from six departments.  Medical aid and support are on call from North Flight.
