Dog License Information

Dog licenses are required for dogs over four months of age, for newly purchased or acquired dogs. and for those dogs just becoming a Michigan resident.

New licenses can be purchased at either the County Treasurer's Office or from the following Grand Traverse County veterinarians:

    •    All Animal Veterinary Center
    •    Animal Medical Center
    •    Banfield Pet Hospital
    •    VCA - Cherry Bend Animal Hospital
    •    Clarke-Everett Dog & Cat Hospital
    •    Companion Animal Hospital
    •    East Bay Animal Hospital
    •    Fife Lake Veterinary 
    •    Grand Traverse Veterinary
    •    Long Lake Veterinary
    •    Northern Michigan Veterinary Hospital
    •    Northwood Animal Hospital
    •    Oakwood Veterinary

Reasons for licensing:

  • Excellent identification - It allows us the information to provide to individuals or Animal Control the ability to notify you when your lost pet is found.
  • It ensures that your dog is rabies vaccinated.
  • It provides proof that the dog legally belongs to you.
  • It's the law.

Renewing Licenses

When renewing a dog license a rabies certificate and proof of sterilization must be presented.
