FAQ's

The Grand Traverse County Health Department provides animal control services for all of Grand Traverse County.  We have two certified Animal Control Officers who are authorized to investigate possible animal related law violations and take appropriate enforcement action.  Additionally, our officers rescue animals that are stray, sick, injured, or endangered by floods, wildland fires, or other situations.

**Please note:  Sheltering services for dogs in Grand Traverse County are now located at Cherryland Humane Society.  The facility at 2571 Keystone is closed effective June 1st, 2013.  Read more...

If you know of a situation where you believe an animal's welfare may be in jeopardy or where public health or safety may be impacted (such as a bite, attack, or harassment of a person by an animal), we urge you to contact our office at 231-995-6080.

For dangerous situations involving animal neglect, abuse, endangerment, or any life threatening situations:
PLEASE CALL 9-1-1.
