Keystone Shelter Closes and Partnership with Cherryland Human Society Begins
~Effective June 3, 2013~
The Animal Control Division of Grand Traverse County and Cherryland Humane Society have been working together to find the best way to provide sheltering services for the greater Grand Traverse area. In order to give dog owners a better opportunity to find lost pets, as well as to facilitate the adoptions of unclaimed animals, both organizations have reached an agreement to have sheltering services for dogs in Grand Traverse County provided at the Cherryland Humane Society’s facility on Ahlberg Road.
In accordance with the new agreement effective June 3, the animal shelter at 2571 Keystone Road has closed. The County’s Animal Control offices will be moving offices to the Public Services Building on LaFranier Road. From these offices, Animal Control Officers Cindy Burckhardt and Ed Hickey, will continue to investigate animal related law violations and to rescue animals that are stray, sick, injured, or endangered. They will also work closely with Cherryland Humane Society on an on-going basis.
