Protecting the health and safety of every resident in Grand Traverse County is the purpose for our existence at the Grand Traverse County Health Department.  Because we never know when a disaster may strike, our professional Emergency Management team has developed an Emergency Operations Plan and stands ready to initiate and direct it in the event of a full-scale emergency.

Grand Traverse County is working closely with Emergency Coordinators, the Region 7 Disaster Preparedness Advisory Committee (DPAC), and other Emergency Preparedness committees to ensure a coordinated, effective response to any emergency. Current program objectives fall under five focus areas: public health planning, epidemiology, professional training and development, risk communications and information dissemination, and improvement of communications technology.

Our Goals Are:

  • Assure Individuals and their families in our community are prepared for an emergency.
  • Assure that there is timely identification and response to public health emergencies.
  • Assure that a competent public health, health care, and emergency response workforce exists in our region.
  • Assure that health department policies support an effective and coordinated response to an emergency.
  • Assure that State, regional and local community partnerships are mobilized to promptly identify problems, to coordinate a response to emergencies and assure adequate health care, vaccinations, and medications are available for affected individuals.
