Health Care Coverage

Healthy Kids offers free health care coverage for pregnant women, babies, and children. The Health Department will assist pregnant women or parents complete the application. The application is sent to the Department of Human Resources for processing. Health Department staff will also assist pregnant women link to a health care provider for early prenatal care and medical coverage until two months after delivery.

MI-Child is a health insurance program with a $10/month/family premium for children under age 19. Coverage includes prescriptions, dental, regular checkups, emergency care, mental health services, and substance abuse services.

Plan First! is coverage for family planning services to women 19-44 years old who are not currently on Medicaid, and do not have full family planning benefits from private insurance.

CHAP (Coalition Health Access Program) is a free program for qualifying, uninsured residents of Grand Traverse, Benzie and Leelanau counties. CHAP is comprised of a network of health providers and organizations who donate many health services to uninsured people so they may obtain basic health care.

Benefits of CHAP membership allows access to:

• A regular doctor, nurse practitioner of physician assistant;
• Basic drugs (mainly generic) at pharmacies, with a small co-pay;
• Labs, basic x-rays and EKG's at Munson Healthcare facilities;
• Referrals to specialists when ordered by the primary care doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant and scheduled by CHAP.
