Q:  How do I learn about an opening with Grand Traverse County?

A:  The easiest way is by using this website or call our 24-hour job hotline at (231) 922-4795. You can also view postings during normal business hours at the Human Resources Department, 400 Boardman Avenue (corner of Eighth Street), Traverse City, MI 49684  (Second Floor)

Q:  When are new positions posted?

A:  New positions may be posted any day of the week. Positions are posted for a minimum of five working days. We recommend you review the open postings once every week.

Q:  How do I submit an Application?

A:  You must submit an Application online.  You may also submit a Resume to enhance your Application if desired.

Q:  How do I apply for a current job opening?

A:  You must apply online for each position you are interested in.  Application may be made at your convenience via the internet during the posting period.

Q:  When can I apply for a posting?

A:  You may submit an Application for employment only when an opening has been posted. If you are applying for a specific posting, you must apply during the posting period. In addition, if you are applying for a clerical position, you must have a passing score on the written clerical test to be considered further in the process.

Q:  May I apply for more than one posting at a time?

A:  Yes, once your application is active, you may apply for as many postings as you wish online.

Q:  Do I need to submit a new Application for every posting I apply for?

A:  Yes.

Q:  Will you notify me when the job has been filled?

A:  No, only candidates who are interviewed will receive notice from the Human Resources Department when a position has been filled. You may check the status of all recently filled positions on our Job Hotline at (231) 922-4796 or this website.

Q: Where can I apply for a Grand Traverse County Road Commission job?

A: The Road Commission is a separate entity from Grand Traverse County. Please click on the following link for further information.

Q: When can I take the County written (clerical) test?

A: A group test will be scheduled when a posted opening requires a passing score on the written test. Information is generally provided on the posting for reserving a seat. The County Written Clerical test is administered on an as-needed basis. You may sign up for any test that has been scheduled. Additional skill-based testing is administered upon invitation only.

Q: What type of testing is required for consideration of a Correctional Officer or Road Patrol Deputy position?

A: Tests that are required include a Written test and a Physical Agility test. The written test is comprised of three components, which include a timed Vocabulary test, a timed Reading Comprehension test, and a Spelling Test. The Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension tests are multiple choice. For the Spelling test, a proctor will pronounce 25 words, each of them two times, and the test-takers will provide a written spelling of the word. The Physical Agility consists of Sit-Ups, Push-Ups, and a 2-Mile Run. The physical requirements are based on Gender and Age. Physical

A: These tests are typically conducted on the same day and are generally by invitation only.
