Copper Ridge Silver Lake Road and Barnes Road
Garfield Township Copper Ridge, formerly the Road Commission property, located on Silver Lake Road directly across from Traverse City West Middle School, is a mixed-use professional development. Located just minutes from downtown, Munson Medical Center and the historic Grand Traverse Commons, Copper Ridge is comprised of residential and commercial uses including Urgent Care, pharmacy, medical offices and surgery center as well as office space. With an amended Brownfield Plan occurring 2008, a new cancer center is slated, creating over 700 jobs.

City of Traverse City Grand Traverse County received a State Brownfield Award tax capture valued at $1.8 million supporting a new, five-story, mixed use commercial/retail/residential building in Traverse City with private parking in the alley-level basement. The building will replace the former Firestone property and the former Annie's properties. The project is expected to generate up to $20 million in investment and create up to 60 new jobs.
"This project which has sat vacant and idle for over 9 years will bring vitality to this corner in downtown Traverse City", said Chairman Virginia Coulter of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

River's Edge (Midtown Centre) 120 Lake Street
City of Traverse City River's Edge is a project that the Grand Traverse region worked together for the betterment of its community. The former Traverse City Ironworks iron foundry covered approximately eight acres along the Boardman River in downtown Traverse City. This property would still remain undeveloped, but for changes in environmental legislation, the State Brownfield legislation and the cooperation of the city, county and state.
Sustainable development is a growing movement that has gained national attention with the creation of the President's Council on Sustainable Development.
Mixed-use development comprised of residential,office and commercial. Streetscapes, sidewalks and pedestrian pathways from Cass to Eighth Street and then to Boardman Avenue will be completed.

This property was originally approved as a Brownfield in 2000. Due to the significant free product recovery/clean-up needed at the site, redevelopment stalled. In 2008, a new purchaser has taken steps to amended Brownfield plan and workplan to redevelop site as a two-story medical office. Significant environmental clean-up will occur at this site and with the co-mingling of free product have some impact on the adjacent properties. The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority will be pursuing cost recovery of clean-up.

Bank of Northern Michigan

City of Traverse City This property was split into two parcels each under different township. The southernmost parcel has been redeveloped and contains a new financial institution for the region, Bank of Northern Michigan. The northern parcel contains a commercial building with leased office space. This redevelopment replaces a former gasoline station that was vacated with commercial and retail operations. The City of Traverse City Planning Commission honored this project with an Oustanding Development Award in 2008.
