Brush Drop-off Site Opening
April 3, 2010 Opening the first Saturday of April for the season. This increasingly popular site is open on Tuesday from noon to 7 PM, Thursday and Saturday, 9-3 PM. Acceptable materials include: brush, branches, grass clippings,leaves-$5.00/cubic yard or $1.00/bag. Untreated construction wood-$8.00 cubic yard, Pallets-$1.00 each, stumps .50/inch up to 24" diameter.

Clean Out Your Files Week
April 19-April 25, 2010 This is a no cost opportunity for businesses to dispose of unwanted paper material. Waste Management of Northern Michigan, Inc. will be providing a recycling container at the Sarah Hardy Farmers Market parking lot at the corner of Cass & Union Streets. Accepted material includes Newspapers, Magazines, Old Files, Office Paper, and Junk Mail. In addition, Profile (3820 Cass Rd., Traverse City) will provide FREE shredding/recycling of paper documents and files April 19-23 from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Earth For Earth Day
April 24, 2010 (Saturday) 8:00 am to noon, (or until gone) Self serve, self haul compost is yours FREE at the Farmers Market parking lot (Union Street and Grandview Parkway), courtesy of the City of Traverse City & Grand Traverse County. Bring your own shovel and container and scoop the benefits of compost.

2010 Nature North Festival
Get outside and explore at the Nature North Festival! Join us at the Boardman River Nature Center for this day of fun-filled activities designed to celebrate the wonders of nature in the Grand Traverse region. This celebration will bring together a variety of area organizations devoted to environmental education, outdoor recreation and natural resource management. Participate in hands-on activities, hikes and games for the whole family, and learn more about ways to get outdoors for the rest of the summer.
When: Saturday, June 12, 10a - 4p

What:
- Wings of Wonder raptor display - An awesome experience with live birds
- Free kayaking on Sabin Pond
- An interactive music experience with Kathryn Christian (website)
- Music from The Tongues
- Food: Gyros - Meat & veggie (This will cost some $)
- Fly casting - Learn from some pros about how to throw a fly
- Large telescope with a solar filter so that kids (and adults) can see some planets during the day
- Regular guided hikes
- Ollie the Otter
- Stream life discovery - Kids (and adults) can go down to a nearby creek and learn about the insects and fish in it. A representative from the DNR will be in the stream and be able to show folks the fish that inhabit it.
- Fun audio/visual experience with LIAA - there will be a green screen set up where kids can "interact" with oversize creatures from nature.

DTE Energy Green Day Application
A highlight of Cherry Festival Week will be the 3rd DTE Energy Green Day, being held on Friday, July 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Open Space. We are excited to have Bob Osterhout (Manager) and Kim Elliott (Marketing/Education) from the Grand Traverse County Resource Recovery Department, as the Co-Event Directors for DTE EnergyGreen Day.
Focusing on educational, interactive and participatory activities, we want visitors to learn about Renewable Energy products, Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Living Options, how to be better stewards of Northwest Michigan’s beautiful natural resources, and much more!
The Cherry Festival is currently seeking businesses and organizations interested in applying for participation in this event. The Cherry Festival will be offering both display booth space and family friendly, hands-on activities throughout the day. You can have just a display, just host an activity, or both. The Cherry Festival is especially interested in fun, interactive & educational displays and activities.

2010 RecycleSmart Kids Garage Sale
Registration Form/Additional Information
The RecycleSmart Kids Garage Sale is a great opportunity to have your child become a savvy business person and at the same time learn how to reuse and recycle their old toys, games, books, movies, DVD’s etc. Only items pertaining to kids may be offered for sale. Please no furniture or clothing.
All participants’ sale items must be confined to the assigned 8 X 10’ covered floor space. Floor covering provided. No tables or chairs will be provided. Participants are responsible for setting up and cleaning up afterwards. Registration and payment must by received by August 13th, 2010. The first 50 RecycleSmart Kids to register will receive a free RecycleSmart Tote bag.
Who: For ages 6-12 (with parent/guardian supervision)
Where: Grand Traverse County Civic Center – Howe Arena
Date/Time: Saturday August 21, 2010 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Brush Drop-Off Site closing for the 2010 season
November 20, 2010 is the final day of the season for the Grand Traverse County Resource Recovery Brush Drop-Off site. Hours are Tuesday, noon -7:00 pm, Thursday and Saturday, 9:00 - 3:00 pm.
America recycles day
America Recycles Day (ARD), November 15, is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.
The purpose of America Recycles Day is to continue to promote the social, environmental and economic benefits of recycling and encourage more people to join the movement toward creating a better natural environment.
